Wigging Out, In The Best Possible Way !!

Not too long ago, i was recommended to watch a film by director John Cameron Mitchell called ‘Shortbus’, and loved it, almost straight away it took a sharp jump right to my Top 5 fave movies. Well more recently i was recommended by the same person to watch a film again, this time written, directed and staring John Cameron Mitchell, This one was and is called ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ and that’s what this blog is going to be about :)

The general story of Hedwig, without giving too much away is about Hedwig Robinson or Hansel as he is formally known, Hedwig is a singer formally from east Berlin and as the story goes on we are shown flash backs to when he was known as Hansel in his more youthful of years, the story follows Hedwig as he gigs and try’s to get an ex lover ‘Tommy Genosis’ to admit collaborating with him on many of the songs he has now become famous for. There’s a few twists and turns along the way and some amazing songs through out and it’s truly a work of are.

My feelings on the movie, it now sits firmly in my Top 3 favourite movie, i would love to sum up in words just how much i enjoyed the film but fear i couldn’t do it justice, But I’ll try never the less :P

The whole movie is soo well shot, with exquisite use of lighting and colour, the flash backs of less happy times in Berlin are grey and low and the current day scene’s are beautifully colourful.  The chemistry between the actors/actresses is perfect to the point you forget they are acting, And the music, the music is purely perfect, with a variety of tunes and  Hedwig has a truly amazing voice. I felt by the end of it i had travelled along with the characters and more than that wanted to be there with them for real.

It’s not too often i watch a movie and it really strikes a chord with me but these last two John Cameron Mitchell films recommended by FK have really hit the spot and will be firm favourites with me for as long a i am able to appreciate visual media of any-kind.

Thanks sweets, I’ll be looking forward to your next recommendation :)

  1. Did you know that Hedwigs husband Yitzhak is played by a woman?

    I love that…
A female actress playing a gay man who’s dating a transexual while the whole time he’s harboring a desire to be a woman himself!

  2. I had noticed that,
And thought it was a wonderful touch :)
Thank You For Recomending it in the first place Sweets :)

  3. Woah! Culture shock! Makes me feel like a novice – my favorite films are Moulin Rouge! and High Fidelity, so I’m thinking you two are well out of my league… LOL I blame my young naive age :P hehe

  5. Damn right Moulin Rouge! is a great film :P My parents saw it at the cinema, but they hated it so much they walked out!! LOL
Personally, I wrote a 3000 word essay on it and how postmodernism relates to it, and I think you need to love a film in order to write an essay on it! hehe
